Tips: how to solve video puzzles faster and earn 3 stars
Score in VideoPuzzle depends on two things: time and number of moves. Both can be dramatically improved if you know a few proven strategies. Here are 7 tips that will help you reach 3 stars even on 10ร10.
1. Start with Preview
The Preview button shows you the whole image. Hold it for 2โ3 seconds and try to memorize the main reference points โ where the head, tail, eyes are. This saves you 30โ50% of glances at the video while assembling.
2. Edge pieces first
The classic strategy from paper puzzles works here too. Edge pieces have flat sides, so they're easy to recognize. Start with corners, then flat edges, and only then fill the inside. On 10ร10 it makes a huge difference โ you have 36 edge pieces out of 100 total.
3. Watch static elements
Even in a "live" video, 70% of the image is static โ background, most of the body, surface. Usually only the eyes, whiskers, fur or a small detail move. Use static elements as orientation, moving ones as a final clue.
4. Don't grab everything at once
Beginners make the mistake of grabbing pieces randomly. Score penalizes you for every drop that isn't a snap. Pick a piece, decide its place mentally, and only then pick it up. Fewer moves = more points.
5. Read corner colors
Each piece has 4 corners and in each corner you can see the color of the neighboring piece. When two pieces show the same color in adjacent corners, there's a good chance they belong together.
6. Turn the music on
It's not a joke โ research shows that gentle ambient music lowers stress and improves concentration. Our procedurally generated pentatonic music was made exactly for this purpose. Toggle it with the ๐ต button next to Preview.
7. Start with simpler videos
Some videos have higher contrast and less movement โ like Cup or Treehouse with clear edges and colors. Capybara and Puppy are visually richer but more demanding. Start with something contrasty and gradually take on harder videos.
Example: 5ร5 in 90 seconds
Our test: an experienced player solves 5ร5 (25 pieces) of the puppy video in 80โ100 seconds with ~28 moves. That's about 6,500 points and 3 stars. If it takes more than 3 minutes, you're probably using trial-and-error instead of strategy. Go back to tip #1.
